The Zimmer Durom Hip is Failing, Patients are Suing

American's are receiving more and more joint replacements every year. With the advent of modern day hip replacements, elderly individuals can extend the number happy and active years. Since this procedure is such a everyday event, many do not question their doctors, they also fail to question the joint replacement manufacturer regarding what quality assurance measures are in place. This has unfortunately caused serious injury and damages to yourself or to your loved ones. If someone you know has recently received a hip replacement, continue reading for some seriously important info regarding the Zimmer Durom Hip Replacement.

There are many reasons that you or a loved one may have received a Zimmer Durom hip replacement, ultimately it has possibly led to a dangerous or painful situation for yourself or one of your loved ones. Hip replacement procedures which are also known as hip arthroplasty, is a fairly common procedure where the hip joint itself is removed from the body and then replaced by an implant. There are many reasons for actually doing this, one thing is arthritis that is being caused by an irritated joint, damage to the joint over a long life, to fix a hip fracture, which happens often to older people.

Most medical professionals consider modern hip replacement to have come into its own in the early 70's, over the last 30 plus years it has become a commonplace procedure. Hip replacement devices like the ones provide by Zimmer Durom, most often involves three separate pieces, designed to work similar to a real joint. Hip replacement kits include a piece of metal for part of the femur bone. Included is a man made component that mimics the joint itself and allows for natural movement similar to the original joint, lastly is the bone cement and / or screws that hold it all together.

One of the most common issues with hip replacements is the need for revision, a revision is a second surgery necessary to correct any issues with the original surgery. This can really cause a large amount of stress on elderly bodies and even on younger healthier patients. This is the main focus of what is becoming known as the Zimmer Durom recall. The Zimmer Durom device was used by doctors in younger patients that would normally need a hip replacement, since it was designed to go the distance and last a long time. Considering that the Zimmer Durom hip implant was supposed to last a long time, the fact that up to 12 percent of patients required surgeries later, prompting an outcry.

Zimmer Durom initially stated that this high failure rate was due to errors that the surgeons performed, even though they made this initial statement they totally ceased all sales of their hip replacement in July of 2008. The company moved forward and funded a study, what they found was that 8 percent of the people that received the initial hip replacement required a revision surgery withing a two year period. This significant revision percentage has basically led the medical and legal communities to accept that the issue is the device itself and not the way in which it was inserted during surgery.

One thing is certain, if you have had a hip replacement surgery, or someone you know has had one over the last few years, ask your doctor if it was a Zimmer Durom. If you determine that it was a Zimmer Durom device, regardless of whether you are experiencing difficulties or not, you may be able to join a class action law suit. If you come in contact with a Zimmer Durom agent or representative, stay away from signing any of their documents, you may be signing away your right to participate in the class action lawsuit.

To whom it may concern,

I have a question, if anyone could answer.
I had a total hip replacement done in August of 2002, were they manufacturing or using this Zimmer Durom at this time?
My doctor never told me of this device, but did mention to me it depends on how active you are. This he said would determine the life of the replacement.
Thank you for any help you can give me.
